Our questions are tested by experts and are representative of what you will see on the actual exam. Our Score Report also reflects the relative distribution of topics on the actual USMLE exam.
Just like the real Step 1 exam, the AMBOSS Step 1 Self-Assessment places students on a scale relative to their peers who are taking the assessment at the same time.
If you want to track your likely score over time - try our Score Predictor!
Once you buy the AMBOSS Step 1 Self-Assessment, it is available for you to start and finish any time (as long as your AMBOSS subscription is active). You can start and finish it at times that work for you.
If you don’t already have an AMBOSS account - we want to encourage you to discover all the ways we can help you reach your full Step 1 potential! You need an AMBOSS membership to answer and review self-assessment questions. Create your account here. It only takes a few minutes to verify your email address and complete your profile.
You don’t have to take the SA right away - you can do it at a time that’s convenient for you.. Note: You will need an AMBOSS membership to answer and review self-assessment questions. If your membership has expired, renew it to continue using the self-assessment.
You will have 4 question blocks, and 60 minutes to complete each question block. You can split the Self-Assessment up into chunks and take each block at any point. You can also pause the exam, if you need to. That said, we recommend that you complete the exam in one sitting, so you build your test-taking stamina ahead of the real thing.
The Self-Assessment is not available on the mobile apps. Although it is possible to take it on the web browser of your mobile device, we strongly recommend taking it on your desktop device. When you take the real USMLE® Step 1 exam, it’ll be on desktop - so taking the Self-Assessment on desktop is the best way to prepare yourself for exam conditions.
No, these questions are not part of the AMBOSS Qbank. You also won't see these questions again, if you continue using AMBOSS's Qbank to prep for Step 1.
Even though Step 1 is pass/fail, our Score Report will give you a 3-digit score, plus a detailed breakdown of AMBOSS resources you can use to fill your knowledge gaps. This gives you more precise insights and helps you optimize your remaining study time to make sure you pass Step 1 with flying colors.
Your score report and answer explanations will be available immediately after you finish the Self-Assessment. You’ll be able to go back and review your Score Report again any time.
